Wall paintings, Chamonix_2

This is the second of two posts about a series of wall paintings in Chamonix in the area known as La Cite Scolaire. Click here if you would like to know a little more about where these are located and see the first batch posted. These images date back to the summer of 2010 and the spring of 2011. So there is no guarantee these will still be there – they may have been over-painted by now.

These are dramatic images – massive canvases – and difficult to capture easily. If I was taking these images now I would probably choose to take a series of images and stitch them together in Photoshop.

The first three are all taken of one major fresco. This is a huge artwork with what I think might be Nemo at its centre, and some stylised figures scattered toward the corners.

The other three that follow are more difficult to de-code but are nonetheless dramatic and highly skilled in their execution.

About LensScaper

Hi - I'm a UK-based photographer who started out 45+ years ago as a lover of landscapes, inspired by my love of outdoor pursuits: skiing, walking and climbing. Now retired, I seldom leave home without a camera and I find images in unexpected places and from different genres. I work on the premise that Photography is Art and that creativity is dependent on the cultivation of 'A Seeing Eye'.

  1. Great photos! Especially love the first one – any idea on who the artist is??

Thanks very much for your comment, Merwin. Sadly I don’t know the artists – I guess they are students at the school or the college. I’ve taken a quick look at your website and will explore it further – I am always on the look out for the work of Street Artists; such talented people who seldom get the recognition their work deserves. You might be interested in the work of Frenchman Patrick Commecy who painted an extraordinary Fresco in Chamonix and which featured in another of my recent posts. Here’s the link to that: https://lensscaper.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/the-guides-of-chamonix-fresco/

This is more than casual graffiti – very skilled painters at work here. That yawning baby one is really interesting.
