Autumn is creeping up on us in the UK, patchily. It’s a time of the year that has intense beauty in the broad sweep of the country and also in the small detail.
Personally, I prefer the small detail, getting up-close and personal with the foliage or in-close with a longer lens. Drilling down – putting the small intimate detail of the Landsape under the Microscope – which is why I call these images ‘MicroScapes’.
Two images today, neither of them notable for their autumnal colour, but show leaves eaten away and diseased. On borrowed time. There is a strange beauty in the death throes of nature, just like we find beauty in the decay of inner city buildings and rural barns.
Next week, weather obliging, the colours will be here.
Such beautiful detail and bokeh, Andy. I, too, love the death of leaves. And, your perception is spot on about the old buildings. I am with you on the MicroScape notion too. Great images here. 🙂

Thanks George for that. Hopefully this week I will find some really dead leaves – weather permitting.

The similarity between the spots on the leaves and the bokeh is a nice effect.

These are excellent, Andy, in spite of the lack of “autumnal colour”. But green is still a relevant autumn color. And the photos say “Autumn” quite nicely.

Thanks Ken. Leaf-turn is very erratic. In a wood you can find all the colours, but you’ve got to find the right kind of wood. Hopefully we will get to one this week.

I share your sentiments on the beauty of decay, both in Nature and in our buildings and dwellings. Well-captured images, Andy…they have the look of “home” to me….

Thanks Scott. The weather is remaining quite mild over here and I suspect that may be delaying Autumn. A few sharp frosts would make all the difference but they are not in the forecast for the next few days

Very sharp details Andy. I hope you get that great autumn color soon.

Thanks Len – we’re heading north this week so things may be that little bit further advanced up there.

The leaf transition is underway nd although there may not be that vivid color that we all love to see just yet, the images are very nicely taken. I like the bokeh you’ve got going on here.

Thanks Jimi. I always enjoy shooting up into the canopy and that often produces an interesting background.
