On the way to the Exhibition

I went up to the NEC Birmingham earlier this week for the Focus on Imaging Annual Exhibition. It’s the biggest Photographic Exhibition in the year in the UK held in the first week in March and one not to be missed. Put a note in your diary now for next year’s event.

It covers just about everything: cameras, lenses, printers, scanners, papers, albums, photo books, all the accessories, website hosting, software, books, etc. You name it – it’s there. I was particularly interested in what Zenfolio and SmugMug Pro have to offer UK photographers with their CMS based website hosting solutions.

I came away with OnOne’s Perfect Photo Suite 6 and Permajet’s Eco-Flo CIS (Continuous Ink System). Permajet supply a huge range of papers including some superb Fine Art papers, they also offer free bespoke Profiling for those using their papers, and their service is excellent. If you’re from the UK check them out here. I strongly recommend the brand and all that it provides – including their training courses.

The walk to the exhibition halls from Birmingham International railway station is lengthy but not without photographic interest as the three images in this post demonstrate.

I’m surprised to tell you that I have never seen any other photographic enthusiast taking an image on the way to the halls. Maybe they are all in too much of a hurry, or is it me that’s odd? (that’s a rhetorical question by the way)!

I took a very similar image to this one a year ago. to see the earlier image click here. Or go to the Post ‘A Singular Colour‘ that it was a part of.

Nice images Andy. I’ve never heard of the conference. I’ve never been to one and was hoping to go to Photoshop World in Washington DC this year but I had a conflict. I think you will really enjoy the OnOne Suite. Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Thanks Len. Now to find the time to start using OnOne Suite, and I recently bought Lightroom 3 too! A few late nights or early starts in the weeks ahead I guess.

    Great set of images, Andy.
You should have a blast at this conference. I don’t know a thing about it but with all that’s going on it’s bound to be a winner. Nice opportunity to pick up on the latest and greatest technology.

I use SmugMug Pro, a wonderful service, but I’m anxious to see some of your post from this conference. I’m sure there will be lots to share. Enjoy!

Thanks, Jimi. It was a busy day – sadly no images to be had at the venue. Too many people and juggling bags and ‘shopping’ kept me occupied. But it’s been a busy week otherwise – plenty of shots from elsewhere. Interested to hear you use SmugMug – do they host your site?

Some great shots here Andy and the conference sounds awesome! Definitely worth the time! I use zenfolio and could not be happier with it. The SEO leaves a little to be desired, but the overall look, feel and ordering of the site is outstanding.

  5. Nice shots Andy…I gues for those other photographers the old saying “you snooze you lose” holds true. I use SmugMug Pro and am very happy with them and the service is outstanding. I also just purchased OnOne Perfect Photo Suite and am really enjoying it but need to find the time to learn how to use it to its full potential.
