I’ve never owned a Harley Davidson and I’m never likely to, but that doesn’t stop me getting excited by the sight of one, or the sound of one.
A couple of weeks ago we had an event in town called ‘AmeriCARna’. The town centre, for a day, was home to an astonishing collection of vintage American cars from the fifties, sixties and seventies. An era of extravagant styling when cars had fins and bling. There were also Corvettes and Mustangs and Hot Rods, and…. a large number of Harleys and other Bikes.
It was a great day and a lot of images were taken. An opportunity to get up close to the heart of a Harley – something I have wanted to do for a long time. What a stunning sight. It’s an engine, but so much more than just an engine – it’s a work of art. Beautiful.
The love of Harleys transcends most borders and cultures, it seems — but at least with this fan of yours it doesn’t transcend the gender barrier. I do love your *photo* of the Harley, though. 😉

Thanks Heide. Harleys are very much a ‘Man’ toy. If I was thirty years younger I might well buy one but at seventy I would look a bit stupid riding one!

Ah, Andy … who cares how we look, if we’re having fun? 🙂 But they *are* dangerous, and noisy, so just as well to have other hobbies.

There are a lot of fine looking bikes out there, but there’s nothing like a Harley. When I’m out in the hill country, especially in the area where road rallies are common, it’s easy to pick out the sound of a group of approaching Harley riders just by the vibration and sound.

Ah yes, the sound of a Harley! I remember when we were driving down Vancouver Island about twenty years ago we suddenly found ourselves immersed in a swarm of Harleys that swept by. The sound is special, so distinctive. What a sight that was.

Thanks Paula. Not difficult to get a goos shot on that day. They were lined up side by side in all their glory.

Thanks Ken. Awesome is an appropriate word when talking abut Harleys. As I said in a reply to Linda, we were surrounded by a swarm of Harleys while driving down Vancouver Island about twenty years ago. That wonderful sound almost shaking the car as they swept by. A lasting memory.
