Spent an hour this morning in a battle against the wind to explore further some different collages of leaves. Not much good came of it apart from this image which I captured before the wind whipped the leaves away.
However, all is not lost. The leaves that the wind didn’t scatter went back into the bucket of water and will re-emerge when the wind dies down. One thing is certain, collages cannot be rushed; I need time to think about how to arrange the leaves, and it involves trial and error. Wind is not helpful!

I think wind is a universal problem for photographers, especially shooting fallen leaves. Nice work, Andy.

Generally speaking we’ve not had much wind recently, but on the day when I really wanted time to pursue ideas at leisure, the wind arrived!

A valuable investment, every minute of time you spent doing this. I still really like the expressiveness of the brushstrokes, and the gloss and shimmer of wetness on the leaves – clever to keep them wet when you’re not using them!
If you can bear to lose a few leaves, I wonder what a photo of the leaves that were put into place blowing away might look like? Probably it’s only enough wind to be annoying, not enough to make dramatic photos. 😉 But there might be something you could do with it, if it insists on sticking around. I look forward to seeing more!

Thanks Lynn. The wind was too erratic to capture wind blowing leaves away, and my mood was not at its best to be patient and wait for the next squall to arrive!!

I’m still of a divided mind about the brushstrokes, but your leaves-in-the-waterbucket technique certainly is creative. I’m supposing it makes the leaves easier to control — at least a bit — as well as adding that wonderful shine to them.
This photo brought to mind the second half of Ezra Pound’s short Poem, “In A Station of the Metro,” with its image of “petals on a wet, black bough.” Here, your leaves serve perfectly well as petals.

Wet leaves are heavier and therefore a little more likely to stay where they are put! Not always, unfortunately. I think the idea of leaves being petals is a lovely idea.

Nice – I’ve been looking at the leaves – both in great piles and as individual shapes against contrasting backgrounds and trying to figure out how to collage them. I’ll gather some up and let it stew.

Many thanks for your comment Bill. This project has been a journey of discovery and about exploring ideas. Until this Autumn I had never really thought of creating collages, but I’ve been pleased with the results. I hope I’ve given you an idea or two..
