Matterhorn Golf

_ds84955Zermatt has a golf course, strange though that may sound. It is actually 5kms down the valley between Tasch and Randa where the valley floor is very flat. This image is a bird’s-eye view down onto it from the climb up to the Weisshorn Hut.

Even more strange, Zermatt has also has a Yacht Club. Really, it does. But they don’t sail a boat anywhere near Zermatt. Click here to read my Post about it.

About LensScaper

Hi - I'm a UK-based photographer who started out 45+ years ago as a lover of landscapes, inspired by my love of outdoor pursuits: skiing, walking and climbing. Now retired, I seldom leave home without a camera and I find images in unexpected places and from different genres. I work on the premise that Photography is Art and that creativity is dependent on the cultivation of 'A Seeing Eye'. I'm not averse to manipulating images to produce derivatives that may sometimes be far removed from the original.

Now there’s a place I’d like to play a round or two Andy. A yacht club does seem strange but lake Geneva is not so far away I suppose. I love this composition. An almost abstract image.

This image highlights one of the problems of image capture when out on a long hike. I could easily have spent half an hour on a small section of this path that ran parallel with the golf course but climbing up through a tight series of zig-zags. Patience would have resulted in better composed images with golfers placed strategically on the Greens. But I had a seven hour day ahead of me and I just couldn’t spare the time to wait for that right shot. So a few had to be enough, I took one or two on the way down although by that time I was becoming dehydrated, the heat was quite suffocating and all I could think of was along cold beer in Tasch!

  2. Nice aerial photo of the golf course.

Love those contrasting greens and tree shadows Andy . Sounds like you needed to save yourself for that long day ahead , a cool beer is always a grand reward at the end of a hike 🙂

What a course! It looks beautiful. I like how clear the water is as well as the peninsula green.

What are the par and distance for the course? I would love to play it next time I am in Europe.
