Two weeks in a mountain village like Zermatt is an opportunity for daily walking, but I always spend the occasional hour or two within the village on the look-out for something a little different.
I spotted this cat on an upstairs windowsill on one such walk. He/She was sitting upright surveying the neighbourhood in a way that only a cat can; until I approached when the cat adopted a more wary poise and my every move was scrutinised with a fixed stare.
An hour later the cat was still on the windowsilll, motionless. The upper left window is open giving the cat a means of access to the interior of the house (when finally it became bored), although I would have thought that accessing the windowsill via that window would have been a somewhat trickier manoeuvre. (What a strangely spelt word that last one is in the English version – the American version ‘maneuver’ doesn’t look much better either).
Love this shot! The angle and colors are almost as good as the caption! 🙂

There must be something about Zermatt and cats, we saw the hugest cat while vacationing there a few years back. HUGEST cat, with the tiniest head. I’ll have to see if I can dig up the photo. Lovely pic btw!

Cats are so mysterious and ominous…this post captures that feeling. Lovely picture.

Cats are very observant and hence their reactionary speed is very fast as well. Wonderful shot, by the way. I love the composition.

I wonder if there was a moment of silence where both of you just stared at each other for a while before going about each others’ business.

With a glance I feel I know this cat. Indoors a lap loving, purr machine. Out of doors a ever ready killing machine

Amazing photograph.. And really I can’t help wondering if the cat is looking at you or you looking at her.. It seems like either she is too daring to stare in your eyes or she’s lazy and saying do whatever you wanna do, I am safe up here..haha

Cat sighting, always a plus to the day…bonus that the cat had the patience to hang with a world observation stance

Cats always watch what is going on in their world. Some are considered guards to their homes and families. Perfect picture!

Absolutely – that stare, so intense, that encompasses so much. You can’t stare a cat down! Lovely to welcome you back on-line, you’ve been missed by many I am sure.

What a beautiful, elegance. The cat is learning watching. The mystery around and of the cat is so alluring.

That’s one adorable cat. I loved this piece – It’s important to just stop and observe the gloriously ordinary aspects sometimes.

Ever notice that one cat’s “wary” stare is exactly the same as another cat’s “what can you do for me” stare? Either way, you’ve done a terrific job capturing a soft subject quite at home in a vastly rough and stark background. Good job!
