Last week, photographs were taken of our house by a professional for the sale brochure: interior shots of the main rooms and an exterior shot of the frontage for the cover.
The interior images were fine, but the cover image wasn’t. It was over-exposed by at least half a stop, and the viewpoint chosen was poor. The agent wasn’t happy and neither was I.
So, as I like to think of myself as a reasonably capable photographer, I thought I would see what I could achieve. After all, having lived here for over thirty years I do have some ideas on the subject. The sun obliged by putting in an appearance. I perched on a step-ladder and took a few images and sent them off to the agent to show what was possible.
The agent was pleased, so pleased in fact, that one of my images (the one you see in this post) will now be the cover shot for the sale brochure when the time comes for the house to go on the market – which isn’t actually imminent. Job done.
Great shot Andy. I often find myself looking at real estate photography and wondering how I would go. Job well done 🙂

Thanks Norma. I could handle the exteriors, but not the interiors

As they say Andy, if you want a job doing properly, do it yourself!

Great cover shot, Andy. I took all the interior shots of my last house when it went up for sale and the exterior photos I shot in the previous summer, since the house went up for sale in the winter. It was only on the market for one week so we must have done something right.

I have heard it said that most houses sell on first impressions. Get the exterior looking smart and tidy, a neat front garden, and if you can get them over the threshold the task is more than half done. The Wisteria will be out in three weeks and I will shoot this view again – the house will look a little less bare and the splash of colour will look good. Wisteria has a wonderful smell too, pity you can’t add a little scratch pad of wisteria scent to the paper!

Thank you Edith. I wouldn’t mind doing Exteriors, but Interiors would not be my cup of tea.

A lovely house Andy! I imagine you’ll be sad to leave won’t you? We always invest so many years in our bricks and mortar. Nice shot!

Thanks Adrian. Yes we will be sad to leave it – although, not surprisingly, my wife is more attached to the house than I am. There comes a time when a move is the right decision for all sorts of reasons and one just has to take one’s courage in both hands and go for it

I just discovered that comments left on enlarged photos don’t appear here. I presume you’ll get notification of my comment anyway — but if not, click to enlarge!

Yes, as you will now know, I do get to see those comments although they are invisible unless the image is clicked upon to enlarge it. Many thanks as always for your comments, Linda – they are always enlightening.

That looks a fine home Andy and you’ve a lovely shot of it there . I like the tree shadows leading us across the garden path to the front porch 😉 I can really imagine that wisteria is going to look a dream in a few weeks time !

I will be posting images of the Wisteria. I’ve been away this week – touring round the Surrey Hills and it has been extraordinary to see the pace of Spring thanks to a few hot days. I will see a marked change when I get home late tomorrow and look out the window on saturday morning,

I always wanted to give real estate photography a try. Excellent cover shot Andy. I’ll bet you could have done a great job on the interiors too.

I think I would have struggled with the interiors, Len
