Blue Facades

London is a fascinating city to explore, especially on foot. It has so many faces. The more I explore it, the more I realize how little I really know about it.

I was in Camden just before Christmas and headed off into some of the side streets and in the space of a few yards found the two building you see in this post almost, but not quite, eye-balling each other across the road.IMG_7280Two distinctly different architectural styles and eras, linked by the colour Blue.IMG_7278An apology to loyal readers: I’m very conscious that I’ve not been visiting, ‘liking’ and commenting on many of your blogs in recent weeks as much as usual. I’m still coughing (it’s been nearly a month) as if I’ve had a forty-a-day habit for the last forty years, and that has really slowed me up quite a bit. Thankfully I’m nearly through it. We are also in the throes of de-cluttering, clearing thirty years of accumulated dross, and sprucing up the house and garden a bit. By the end of the year hopefully we will have moved. On top of all that I’m putting the finishing touches to a re-worked talk to be given in three weeks time. Time is at a premium and some things have regrettably taken a back seat. One of them being my daily trawl through the WordPress reader. My sincere thanks to all of you who continue to loyally read, ‘like’ and comment on my musings, I will endeavour to make more time for returning the compliment but I hope you will understand if it is a little intermittent.

About LensScaper

Hi - I'm a UK-based photographer who started out 45+ years ago as a lover of landscapes, inspired by my love of outdoor pursuits: skiing, walking and climbing. Now retired, I seldom leave home without a camera and I find images in unexpected places and from different genres. I work on the premise that Photography is Art and that creativity is dependent on the cultivation of 'A Seeing Eye'.

I’m amazed at the number of people I know who are doing the de-cluttering bit. Whether it’s the coming of spring or the coming of life-changes, it’s a process I enjoy. I must say — I’m about to the point where I know where everything in my apartment is located. I can live with that.

It’s strange. I don’t enjoy the color blue (or any of its shades) for decorating or dressing, but I’m really fond of combinations of blue and brown in all their variety. Despite all the wonderful details in the first photo, that means I have a preference for the second, where the colors are more evenly balanced. It’s a lovely view.

Thanks Linda. I’m reaching the point where I am very good at tidying things away very carefully, but then a few weeks later can’t find where things were carefully put! Blue always reminds me of summer and for that reason alone is a favourite colour. I agree that a contrasting colour can balance the image, but I was particularly drawn to that first image because of the solid blue backdrop – it is almost monochromatic blue tones.

Life sometimes get in the way of our fun Andy. I dread moving and getting ready for one is no picnic. I suspect that my day will come in the somewhat near future as the winters are really getting to me. If only we could decide where to move to. Nice pics.

Thanks Len. When it’s the first move in 32 years it’s a major upheaval and we’ve lived in this area of the country since 1972. Moving to the other side of London into Surrey is a big leap for us.

I hope you feel better now, and yes, decluttering is just great and so important.

nicely seen and shot – and I completely agree, having shot London many times now, I still find stuff I just walked past on a previous trip, and shake my head at my lack of attention sometimes!

Thanks Jim – London always surprises. The central area is really quite well confined, but it’s when you get just a little way outside that central area that you start to find a completely different side to London

Smashing pictures as always Andy and I totally understand the need to prioritise what limited time we have. I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend.
