About LensScaper

Hi - I'm a UK-based photographer who started out 45+ years ago as a lover of landscapes, inspired by my love of outdoor pursuits: skiing, walking and climbing. Now retired, I seldom leave home without a camera and I find images in unexpected places and from different genres. I work on the premise that Photography is Art and that creativity is dependent on the cultivation of 'A Seeing Eye'.

I haven’t seen the original but I’m guessing the black and white is the best conversion on this. It tends to bring out the drama in the sky.

Thanks Ken. The colour original was OK, but the sky – which was what attracted me to this image – just didn’t have the contrast I wanted. Good ol’ B&W obliges. This was processed with an Infra-Ref preset in Topaz B&W effects.

  4. I agree with the others who have commented on the tones in this one. I also like the juxtaposition of the vertical lines of the trees and the horizontal lines of the clouds.

Thanks for commenting Melinda. Ideally I would have liked an un-interrupted line of Poplar trees (the foreground tree on the left rather spoils it) but the sky was moving – as it does! – and I would have to have moved some distance to get a clean line of poplars by which time the sky would not have been so well placed.

What an amazing sky you have captured here, and it is so perfect in black and white.

Thanks very much Lisa. An infra-red preset produced this sky for me. It really wasn’t dramatic enough in colour, but the preset really created the drama of dark sky and fluffy white clouds.

I see what you mean about the trees, but, to be quite frank, I didn’t notice the foreground tree until you mentioned it. It was “there,” but didn’t distract at all from the impact of the image. That sky is so dynamic.

This is wonderful Andy. Beautiful big skies (I love big skies) and those trees remind me of bottom teeth. Superb 🙂
