Looking Up

Spring conditions in the Alps. Snow’s good, sun’s bright, cold enough up high, warm like a Spring day in the village. A stunning sky caught my eye.

About LensScaper

Hi - I'm a UK-based photographer who started out 45+ years ago as a lover of landscapes, inspired by my love of outdoor pursuits: skiing, walking and climbing. Now retired, I seldom leave home without a camera and I find images in unexpected places and from different genres. I work on the premise that Photography is Art and that creativity is dependent on the cultivation of 'A Seeing Eye'.

It is dramatic. Great shot, Andy. I used Elements for years and enjoyed workig with it.

Thanks James. I had watched this sky developing for a little while. This was grabbed with the Canon G10. I had my dSLR in my back back – lens and body separate – and thought, I’ll get that out at the next sensible opportunity. Too late! That remarkable sky had not completely gone but had dissipated within a few minutes.

Looks like you’ve cut and pasted some sand from the surf line Andy and pasted it into your sky. A very interesting and dramatic shot.

I’ve seen a lot of skies rather like this – close to a Mackerel sky – I think it’s a type of Cirrus. But I’ve never seen one where the waves at the centre were as a sharply defined as in this image. Your description is very apt, Adrian.

Very nice shot and well processed. I think there’s a bit of a Mackerel sky going on there.

Thanks Frank. I’m not entirely happy with the processing but it’s the best I can do achieve on a small laptop. My opinion was that it was a version of Mackerel. Nice to have your confirmation.

it’s both dramatic and beautiful… but I have to admit that I can’t help trying to picture it in color…
