There’s a superb new art work at Southbank. You’ll find it on the side wall behind the Mexican restaurant Wahaca. The colours are vibrant, the painting precise, the content fascinating and deftly interwoven.
It’s by Grems – a French graphic artist and musician. Real name Mickael Eveno. Even his signature is a mini work of art. Don’t miss it if you are down that way.
A lot of new art has appeared recently on Southbank including works by Roa and Phlegm. I posted an image of Roa’s work previously: Squirrels.
I will get round to posting Phlegm’s work in the next week or two.
Very colorful Andy. I think street art has risen greatly in the world of art. I don’t remember this art form as prevalent during anytime of my life. maybe I was too busy working to notice it but I don’t think so. Do you have the same thoughts abut its rise?

Yes, I agree. I don’t recall it being as visible as it is now. But I’m not entirely sure whether that is also because I wasn’t looking for it, or I wasn’t visiting the appropriate places. I think it has become more main stream these days and that is partly because the artists are being invited to work on walls in well known public places: i.e. it has become an accepted, recognized and mostly a high quality art form.

Thanks Ken. This is very easily missed, tucked away back from the usual through ways.

Is that the Wahaca underneath the RFH/Southbank Centre? Was up there Monday but wasn’t really looking!

Yes, that’s right. You need to walk past Wahaca (heading towards Tate Modern) and then turn immediate right (away from the Thames). The painting is up on the right hand wall. From memory I think you need to go up some steps to get on the same level as it.

Thanks. Going up that way again next week, I’ll have a proper look. It’s an amazing piece of art!
