Going Shopping

Light changes everything, even the most mundane and ordinary of scenes. This is the entrance to the escalators down to the Debenhams department store from the multi-storey carpark in Central Milton Keynes.

IMG_5459_wpIt’s an entrance that I have used countless times and thought nothing of it. But on this particular day there was something very attractive about the diffused lighting and criss-crossing lines. My wife had gone on ahead of me and I caught her in the image, far right. For me this is a very satisfying image and also the proof that, given the right combination of circumstances, there are images to be found anywhere you go. Carry that camera and make use of it.     This is a very pleasing arrangement of shapes, and I like how the two mannequins on the left balance your wife. A good reminder, too, that we need to always have a camera handy!

    Light does indeed change ordinary scenes Andy. I think the lines and patterns of the composition take the image to another level.

    You are so right about the light, Andy. What looks ordinary and somewhat uninteresting most times suddenly looks great under the right lighting.

    Love this shot, man.The vertical and diagonal lines add a nice touch to this as well.

    Smashing image and a great piece of advice Andy. I never go out without my camera. I’ve seen pictures and kicked myself too many times. There truly is something very pleasing about the picture, the lighting is lovely as you’ve said, the shapes created by the crisscrossing lines, the figure of your wife, the little crosses on the pillars.. so much in there, it really does hold your interest and that is the one thing we all hope to do with a picture.. 🙂

      Thanks Adrian. It was the colour that was so special – particularly that very soft pale blueish light coming through the skylight. I’ve never seen it like this before – nor since, yet.
