Another in the series ‘Out for Lunch’. For today’s date, we are at Jamie’s, one of Jamie Oliver’s Restaurants, serving excellent Italian food. Jamie is a household name in the UK and may to known to some of you in the USA through his Food Revolution initiative.
Jamie’s is always busy, we waited half an hour for a table on our last occasion but the wait was worth it. Each restaurant has its own ambience, how it shapes its interior space, and how it lights it. In the case of Jamie’s here in Milton Keynes it is quite a long dark room, unless you are lucky to be seated at the far end near the windows. So, lighting is important here and it comes in the form of impressive modern chandeliers suspended from the very bare-boned skeletal ceiling.
But it is when you ascend the stairs to use the ‘facilities’, and where there is an additional seating area – not usually used at lunchtime – that you discover one of the visual joys of this restaurant. Viewed horizontally as you ascend the stairs the lighting is quite impressive.
But it is when you actually look straight up that you get the full effect, and this is what attracts my attention every time we go here.
This is the image that I like best and it’s taken me quite a few attempts to get an image that I am satisfied with. Shot of course with a Canon G10 – you can’t really flourish a dSLR in a restaurant and expect to get away with it.
Don’t forget I now have a new second blog – iSighting – a blog where the writing is the primary focus. Click the link to take a look.
Nice images to start off the new year Andy.

I have always been a fan of these exposed industrial-styled ceilings in restaurants for some reason. You’ve done a nice job photographing the area, Andy. Love that middle shot. 🙂

Thank you Jimi. Always good to hear from you. The only problem with those industrial-style ceilings is you never know what dust is lurking up there about to add an unwanted garnish to your meal!

Very nice shot, Andy. I’m familiar with Jamie’s show but not the restaurants. Looks like fun to me.

Thanks and LOL! for the comment. One always has to visit the facilities after a meal – and it always surprises me what I find on the way there.
