Flora and Forest

Day 2 of our holiday in Saas Fee in the Valais Alps area of Switzerland: the next valley immediately East of the Zermatt valley.

A ride up to Hannig on the small gondolas and a gentle amble down through the high alpine pastures rich in flowers, and then through larch forest.

_DS76460_edited-1We are out here in Switzerland a week or two later than usual but the flower season is still in full swing. With a compressed flowering season, all colours out here bloom at roughly the same time – different from our UK climate where whites and yellows are followed by blue and then pink and red (an over-simplification admittedly).

About LensScaper

Hi - I'm a UK-based photographer who started out 45+ years ago as a lover of landscapes, inspired by my love of outdoor pursuits: skiing, walking and climbing. Now retired, I seldom leave home without a camera and I find images in unexpected places and from different genres. I work on the premise that Photography is Art and that creativity is dependent on the cultivation of 'A Seeing Eye'. I'm not averse to manipulating images to produce derivatives that may sometimes be far removed from the original.

Thanks Ken. We thought we would miss the main summer flush of flowers as we are later than usual coming out here. But Spring was late and the flowering season is therefore late too.

  2. These look a bit like grass lilies as I call them. They’re pretty. I like the bug in the middle too. 🙂
Nice conifer forest. This is just a nice forest altogether with it’s long grasses and friendly ambiance. These are just comfortable images.

Thanks George. Switzerland is not just all about the high peaks. A gentle amble lower down reveals the quieter side of teh landscape. These are tiny flowers by the way – just a few millimeters across.

Looks like it would have been a very pleasant walk, Andy…such a pretty forest.

Terrific change up from Switzerland. Everyone (including me) expects the magnificent mountains, but you have shown a softer side of the landscape there. Nice images Andy.

Very peaceful looking place. What a treat to overlap with the flowers!
