This is in, my opinion, one of the most dramatic views of the Mischabel range of mountains that form part of the horseshoe of peaks that encircle the village of Saas Fee in the Valais Alps. Viewed from Saas Fee itself the view of these mountains is so foreshortened that one loses any idea of their vast scale.
Today’s view is from Almagelleralp, a wonderful high valley on the opposite side of the main Saastal valley off which Saas Fee itself sits in a hanging valley or shelf. From this viewpoint, girdled by a band of low-level cloud, the range can be seen for what it is: a formidable majestic ridge of mountains.
From Left the mountains are: Alphubel (the flat-topped peak Lt edge), Taschhorn, Dom, Lenzspitze, Nadelhorn, and Ulrichshorn (far Rt)
The Dom is the highest point of this range (4545M) and the highest mountain entirely within Switzerland.
Great image Andy – I think the wispy cirrus above the range adds an extra dimension.

Thanks Paul. Yes – I liked the way those high clouds were radiating out. This was in the morning, the recent Post on Altocumulus lenticularis was taken in the afternoon of the same day.

This is fantastic Andy. I love the way you’ve placed the snow-capped ridge between the two valley peaks. Great shot.

Thanks Edith. The placement was entirely thanks to the path I was walking on – so I can’t rally claim any credit for the alignment!

What a stunning capture Andy! The plunging V created by the valley in the foreground pulls you right into the frame. The peaks seemingly floating on the low-hanging cloud layer is a just surreal.

Many thanks for your comment, Curt. You’ve summed it up perfectly. This is a stunning viewpoint. Seen through the V the vertical height is about 2 miles!
