At the edge of the lake

Today’s image is of Llyn Cwmorthin in Snowdonia in early summer when the Horsetails are fresh and green and contrast well with the sun-lit waters.

This lake sits in a steep sided valley in N Wales in the heart of the old Slate Mining and Quarrying area just west of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Walk up through the village of Tanygrisiau into Cwmorthin past the spoil and old levels and you will come across the remains of old quarry cottages not far from this lake. Walk on past the lake and up the track beyond and you will reach a high plateau on which sits the deserted Rhosydd Slate Quarry referred to in an earlier post ‘The Powder House’.

About LensScaper

Hi - I'm a UK-based photographer who started out 45+ years ago as a lover of landscapes, inspired by my love of outdoor pursuits: skiing, walking and climbing. Now retired, I seldom leave home without a camera and I find images in unexpected places and from different genres. I work on the premise that Photography is Art and that creativity is dependent on the cultivation of 'A Seeing Eye'. I'm not averse to manipulating images to produce derivatives that may sometimes be far removed from the original.

  4. Well done Andy, you nailed that!

Thanks Paul – it always helps to have the right day, this would have looked dismal without the sun. A common problem in Snowdonia, as you will know!

      • Tell me about it – I don’t have your skill with the camera, but on my outings I try to come back with images that give a ‘feel’ of the route, and sometimes that ‘feel’ is cold and wet!

  5. I love shots like this Andy. Beautiful reflection of the clouds in the rippling water.
