Stained Glass from Zermatt

Back in the UK – but only for about 60hrs. Thanks to all of you who commented on my posts from Zermatt. Your engagement and comments are always welcome and much appreciated.

Today’s image is also from Zermatt – but not an image that you might associate with a high mountain resort.

This is an extraordinary stained glass window in the Reformed Church (Protestant as opposed to Catholic) in Zermatt. A reasonably modern building in itself, it has this dramatic window – modern in scope and execution – in the Chancel area of the church.

I have searched to try and find information on what it represents. It cannot be the 12 Apostles as there are 14 figures over 3 panels in this work. If anyone reading this post knows the symbolism behind this window – then please let me know.

Meanwhile enjoy this image of a most unusual example of Stained Glass.

Further down the side wall, in the area where the congregation sits, are other window panels: of which this pair of figures in profile is an example.

A footnote for regular followers of my Posts: On Tuesday 7 Feb I head back out to the Alps, to Morzine in the Portes du Soleil area for a few day’s skiing with my son. Not often that I get that sort of opportunity, so this will be great fun! This time the laptop will stay at home so I really will be off the map and off the net for a few days. There will be news of my trip when I return on Monday 13 Feb, when normal service will be resumed including viewing and commenting on all the many blogs that I look forward to reading on a daily basis.

About LensScaper

Hi - I'm a UK-based photographer who started out 45+ years ago as a lover of landscapes, inspired by my love of outdoor pursuits: skiing, walking and climbing. Now retired, I seldom leave home without a camera and I find images in unexpected places and from different genres. I work on the premise that Photography is Art and that creativity is dependent on the cultivation of 'A Seeing Eye'.
